Deep Purple se formó en el año 1968 con el nombre de Roundabout Cuyos miembros eran: Ritchie Blackmore: guitarra. Jon Lord: órgano. Chris Curtis: voz. Dave Curtis: bajo . Bobby Woodman: batería. Tras un mes de existencia, Blackmore y Lord eran los únicos supervivientes, Invitaron al cantante Rod Evans, y al bajista Nick Simper y al genial baterísta Ian Paice. En abril, el grupo cambió su nombre a: Deep Purple. Tres discos y una gran gira por Estados Unidos, fue la llegada de Ian Gillan (Voz)y Roger Glover (Bajo) Esta es la formación clásica de la banda.
