Debido a una confusión en una clíncia de insiminación artificial, un anónimo donante de esperma llamado David (Vince Vaughn, Como en casa en ningún sitio ) se entera después de 20 años que es el padre biológico de 533 niños. Cuando hizo la donación, no podía imaginarse que pudiese suceder algo así, por lo que la noticia le deja sin palabras. Los niños ya han crecido y ahora David debe decidir si presentarse o no ante los 142 que le han demandado para conseguir revelar su identidad.
Versión norteamaericana de la triunfal comedia canadiense de 2011, Starbuck. Ken Scott, que dirigió la versión original, repite en la dirección y escritura del guión en esta nueva adaptación protagonizada por Vince Vaughn, al que acompañan otros actores como Cobie Smulders (Como conocí a vuestra madre), Chris Pratt (MoneyBall), Cobie Smulders (Un lugar donde refugiarse) y Jack Reynor (Dollhouse).
