Today in History: On October 21, 1967, 100,000 demonstrators gathered around the Reflecting Pool in Washington D.C. to protest the war in Vietnam. 50,000 of the protestors would march to the Pentagon to demand the end to the war that less than half of all Americans now supported. The march came in response to President Lyndon Johnson asking for a 10 percent increase on taxes to help fund the war. One of the most iconic photographs of the “Flower Power” movement was taken by Bernie Boston of protestor George Harris inserting flowers into the rifle of a National Guardsman.
