Biografía
Savatage nació como un juego de palabras un juego que cosecho muchos frutos de éxitos, pero también de álbumes mediocres en los cuales siendo aun jóvenes se dejaron llevar por los consejos de los ejecutivos de los sellos que buscaban algo más comercial, más pop.
Savatage ve la luz el año 1978 de la mano de los hermanos Criss y Jon Oliva en ese tiempo el grupo se llamaba Avatar, entonces ellos mezclaron la palabra savage con su anterior nombre lo que por cierto dio origen al nombre que se les conoce dentro del género del metal progresivo. El grupo provenía de las tierras de Florida .

Fue el año 1983 en el cual lanzaron su primer disco llamado Sirens y al año siguiente The Dungeons are Calling los cuales fueron producidos de manera independiente. El año 1985 se asocian con el sello Atlantic Recording con el cual graban Power Of The Nigth su sonido heavy que incluía piano de manera significativa. A pesar de un buen comienzo las presiones del sello hicieron que la banda lanzara un disco comercial, con un sonido más pop llamado Figth For The Rock lo que claro quedaría en el olvido de los fans y la banda por constituir un fracaso.
El año 1987 llegaría la reivindicación de la mano de Hall Of The Mountain King del cual sacan un video llamado igual que el disco, su sonido comienza a cambiar es más sinfónico en ello contribuyó Paul O Neil quien los seguiría ayudando en sus futuros discos.
El año 1989 lanzan Gunter Bullet un disco con un sonido progresivo, temas más extensos, liricas que trataban sobre temas conceptuales y en el cual Jon Oliva experimenta con su voz obteniendo registros operísticos, por lo mismo lanzan después un disco con estas características llamado Streets y esto permite que nuevos fans se acerquen a la banda.
Luego de una gira Jon deja momentáneamente el grupo para concentrase en dos proyectos dejando en su reemplazo al vocalista Zachary Stevens , Ya para el año 1993 graban Edge Of The Thorns y viene una exitosa gira con ello, pero como no todo les podía salir bien a los chicos la tragedia se funde cayendo sobre ellos, el hermano menor Criss Oliva muere en un accidente ese año dejando a la banda en ascuas si seguir o no, pero Jon decide que Savatage debe continuar en memoría de su hermano y por todo lo que significó la música compuesta por el guitarrista.
Al año siguiente sacan un disco que sería compuesto por Jon Oliva titulado Handulf Of Rain con Zachary Stevens en voz y el guitarrista Alex Scholnick La canción "Chance" fue la primera de Savatage en usar el contrapunto vocal, un estilo que mantuvieron para los discos siguientes. El tema final, "Alone You Breathe" es un tributo a Criss.

Luego sacarían un VHS /CD Live in Japan en donde el nuevo guitarrista Christofer Caffery rinde tributo a Criss , sin embargo luego en los Shows en vivo sería reemplazado por Al Pitrelli.
Para el año 1995 lanzan su segunda ópera rock llamada Dead Winter Dead destacando en este disco el single "Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24" .
Estando de gira por Europa la dejan a media para concentrarse en el trabajo de su nuevo proyecto Trans Siberian Orchestra (el cual concentra a los integrantes de Savatage hasta el día de hoy) el disco lo titularían Christmas Eve and Other Stories .
Llegando a los albores de 1998 editan el disco Wake Of Magellan , sacando ese mismo año el compilatorio Believe. Cabe destacar que las letras de la anda tratan de temas como las drogas, la decepción, el suicidio o contingencia mundial, es decir temas tan trasversales como universales.
Savatage nos entregaría un disco más llamado Poet And Madmen en el cual siguen deleitándonos con su metal progresivo en el año 2001. Este sería su último trabajo (solo lanzarían un sencillo ese mismo año llamado Conmissar ).
Para concluir debo agregar que el año 2010 aparece un compilatorio Still The Orchestra Plays: Greatest Hits Volume 1 & 2 ofreciéndonos parte del legado de esta gran banda que a mi parecer no debió haberse acabado y debió acercarse a nuestro país a brindarnos unos de sus shows ( eso me hubiese gustado) .
En fin no nos queda más que quedarnos con los discos de esta banda y disfrutar también de los trabajos de Trans Siberian Orchestra por lo pronto dejo la info de los integrantes, discos, y videos.
